Air Malta launches Inflight Entertainment Air Malta has teamed up with Blue MediaMarketing and will be launching In-Flight Entertainment (IFE) onboard its flights as from 1st August 2006. This was announced today during a press conference held at Air Malta’s Head Office by the Hon Minister for Investment, Industry & Information Technology, Dr Austin Gatt and Air Malta Chairman Mr Lawrence Zammit. Present also for the launch were Air Malta Chief Executive Officer, Joe Cappello, ANG Chairman and CEO, Godfrey Grima and MPS Chairman & Managing Director, George Mifsud. The agencies ANG and MPS are partners in Blue Media Marketing.
“With this initiative we are enhancing the services to Air Malta’s clients in a time where it is becoming increasingly difficult to operate an airline,” said Dr Gatt. He added that this is not the first outsourcing contract by the company as the airline has already outsourced its I.T. and aircraft cleaning. “These initiatives will lead to a cost reduction and additional revenue for Air Malta that amounts to Lm3/4 million. This is another step in the company endeavours to increase efficiency and reduce costs,” concluded Dr Gatt.
“Air Malta is proud to launch in-flight entrainment on board its flights”, commenced Mr Zammit. “This is a first for the airline which has throughout these last years invested heavily in its brand new Airbus aircraft fleet equipped with the IFE systems. This is good news for our 1.8 million customers who every year choose Air Malta as their airline. Through this new product Air Malta will be offering an enhanced level of in-flight service which will be the best in-flight entertainment on the Malta route while at the same time saving the airline (through cost savings and revenue generation) around a quarter of a million Maltese Liri annually,” added the Chairman.
Speaking on behalf of Blue MediaMarketing, George Mifsud thanked Air Malta for choosing Blue Media as their partners for this important project, saying that the project is both very challenging and exciting and will contribute to further enhance Air Malta’s in-flight services.
He concluded by saying that the in-flight media opportunities, which include the revamped magazine and for the first time informative and entertainment content on the video screens as well as other media, will further enhance the unique advertising opportunities which are available to companies selling products or services to the captive tourist market during the flights.
The systems are aimed to provide a more enjoyable experience when travelling on Air Malta by providing audiovisual and print entertainment to passengers. Passengers travelling on Air Malta will now be presented with a new in-flight magazine called Sky Life that will be available on a complementary basis in every seat pocket. Sky Life Magazine has a fresh new look, packed with dynamic editorial contributed by top-level journalists that focuses on people and travel, entertainment, business and lifestyle, the latest products and trends, cars, fashion, luxury goods and special features. These items perfectly reflect the lifestyle and consumption environments of today’s modern traveller. With a captive audience averaging 150,000 passengers every month Sky Life will be one of the most read magazines on the Maltese islands.
Apart from the new magazine Air Malta passengers will be able to watch a number of feature films on flights of certain duration, light and humorous shows and insightful documentaries on a broad range of topics.
