:lol: :lol: :lol: - The F-104's engine is the General Electric (GE) J-79 which is the same engine of the F-4 Phantom !!!! (yes, right now I know you are saying ..."ah yes!? so that's where the smoke was coming from !" What you hear in this video is some defect in the Video camera microphone !! 8) 8) 8)

What you hear in this video is some defect in the Video camera microphone !! 8) 8) 8) pahh joke of the day! all f104s make that sound and iv seen countless f104 videos and they ALL make that sound. iv also discucced with many ppl. so it aint a defect :s

Well, we have all heared them roaring above our heads FOR REAL at Malta during run and breaks / circuit before landing and flypasts after take off on departures day at our airshow and a low formation pass with tanker (all Italian Air Force) and I cannot remember ever hearing that sound that reminded me of Casper The Friendly Ghost ! And I also cannot remember The GE J79 engine (same as the Phantom engine) ever producing that sound. I believe the reason for the sounds are two-fold - 1 - wind noise on the mike 2 - pilots' inputs on the throttles. The F-104 lands like no other plane. You simply have to maintain your airspeed no matter what, and that means constant backwards and forwards on the throttle. So the sound could very well be just the engine spooling up and down. Like Alan, I agree that that is not the normal F-104 sound. It's just half a Phantom!

i saw videos of the netherlands f104s and they made that sound too! i do not agree on the mic. a bad mic would make those farting sounds (like they alwasy do). if it was wind on the mic..... then half the ameture videos taken of any kind of aircraft would all make that sound. none ever made that sound. anyway im not agreeing with the bad mic thing
