Favourite strips?
Hello everyone, Which are the airports which you find the most stimulating? I have three main favourites: Kai Tak (Hong Kong) - the airport with the legendary tricky approach... Funafuti (Tuvalu) - not more than BAe 146 - a dir strip on a coral atoll in the middle of the Pacific... 3 hours out from Fiji.. you do all the approach on water, then on the finals, you hit land and you lose the updrafts. Then you land and brake hard... no harsh landings because jets don't like dirt strips too much! Kathmandu (Nepal) - an airport at 4,400 feet surrounded by mountains... runway with an upward slope... best to descend to 7,000 on downwind leg thn turn 180 for finals, descending to 4,900 feet in the process... then you're committed for landing!

Just like most flight simmers, I find Kai Tak to be one of my favourites, especially under some challenging weather conditions. Another airport I like to fly into is Sion, in Switzerland. It's a rather small airport situated in the Alps. I find it to be similar to Innsbruck, but more challenging, especially when using an airliner, since the airport is small and at a high altitude. Then of course, I enjoy the occasional flight into a busy international airport, where traffic is the main preoccupation rather than terrain, whilst being very stimulating just the same. I particularly enjoy flying into Amsterdam Schiphol. Junior

Another challinging approach with a 737 or larger is LICR reggio calabria ;) Try that with the Lago Scenery ;) amazing! Luke

Reggio's nice. The approach is steeper and it's a curved path to avoid high terrain. KM ops require that the approach is only flown by Captains... so I guess it's quite a hard one. If you wanna have an interesting time, though, try to simulate an engine failure with an A320 on takeoff from Innsbruck... that's something which separates the men from the boys!

Yes I found it quite triky with a cessna 152 when landing so I prefer to land on the opposite runway with a 737 or so... But some time the wind does not permit you. I done this kind of approch for quite a few times know so read this steps to begin that kind of approch: 1) Begin a long approch an try to keep high. (About 3500 feet). 2)Keep a slow speed and a high pitch at first. (At this stage only 5 degrees of flaps must be added). 3)Know start your decent rapidly and add 15 degrees of flaps and a small ammount of speed break. 4)On short final set you flaps to full and make sure of the moutains. 5) Finally add power to about 85% and pitch must be 7 degrees on an A319/320 and 5 degrees or so on a 737. 6)After your smooth touchdown (I hope...) and full spead break add full reverse trust. You must set the auto breaks to 2 and at about 60kts turn of the reverse trust and you can continue taxying to the gate. Well thats how I like to do this kind of approuch. Thanks and hope to have a happy landing at Reggio or at any same kind of airports, Ryan

Since I work for an American VA, I usually land in US but I have some internatonal flights and I really love the Heathrow runway and O'Hare's runway Btw this is the VA I work for. I use X-PLANE as a simulator. http://www.californiaair.net/pilots/hubs/hub.phtml?hub=kord The link is the roster page for KORD (Chicago) division. You can see my name (Ruben Zammit) and I'm a Commercial Senior Captain ;)
