Photos should be uploaded between 4:3 or 3:2 format. Those formats are typically used by almost all digital cameras, so that any changes to the format can only be achieved by deliberately cropping the photo differently.
A photo outside these size ratios will be rejected using the rejection reason "Cropping / Photo edges".
To make it easier for you here are the typical sizes for both ratios.
4:3
800x600
1024x768
1280x960
1600*1200
3:2
800x533
1024x683
1200x800
1600x1067
Aaron I avoid the problem by when clicking on the crop logo, in the upper part of photo I include these details:
Width: 3 Height: 2
You will be restricted into cropping but you can move thecropping box or enlarge as you like. The only difference is photoshop will only let you crop a box with that ratio. Also instead of 3 and 2 you can insert 4 and 3.
For vertical shots (such as tail shots) you have to invert the values, meaning if you use normally 3:2, you have to make it 2:3.
Btw vertical shots, I mean like this one:

Don't know, but maybe this can help you. Since using this method I haven't had any rejections or copping edges.
The upper section of photoshop were data is entered is this one:
