Polarizer filter question....
Today I just recieved a Polarizer 67 mm filter + UV Haze 67mm Filter... Now I tried the filter on (in the bad weather, stupid me), it fitted and in close range 100-250mm, the pics came in focus but when I get up to 400mm the pics become blurred... Is this normal for the filters? Ruben

with which filter did this happen ? if its with the polarizer, I am not sure if this is normal or not (though I don't see why this should happen) , but with the UV, this definately should not happen.

The UV works perfectly....... Well today I will try to put only the polarizer with the UV filter underneath... Ruben

never put a polorizer filter on a UV filter. A polorizing filter must be the first filter on the lens when using it... + u dont need a UV filter when using a polorizer!

Now I tried it alone and still when I zoom out to 300-400 mm the picture is getting blurred... Its two things: Either the polarizer is crappy.... Or Maybe the lens is not that good? Do two UV Haze filters on each other help? Rube Anyone know where I can get a good polarizer because this is the second one that doesn't work with my Vivitar lens :O

2 UV filters on each other - CRAP! What brand is your polorizer?

RubenZammit- 03-21-2007

Sunpak polarizer I'll bet I need to start using my Tamron lens (with a working polarizer for the summer)

I think the best is B&W I do not use the polorizer for aviation photography... remember that you loose 2stops with it!

RubenZammit- 03-21-2007

Right... I have a B+W UV Haze which I use.... There isn't anything to worry.... I extreme sun conditions either I don't shoot photos or I use the Tamron lens.....

ok then ! ++ - never use the polarizer WITH the UV ! its either one or the other. Try it again with just the polarizer alone, zoom out and see what happens. when you do this, try one photo on a static subject, and an other one on a "flying one". Becuase I have a suspicion that the bluriness you are seeing is camera shake becauase with the polarizer you "loose" 2 stops (slower shutter speed) and as you are one that likes to work with 200 ISO for fast shutter speed, I think that may be the problem. For aviation photography I don't even own a polarizer ! Maybe for some nice dramatic effect with static, but for me, definately not for action shots.

Actually The ISO 200 is the lowest my cma can reach and funny thing is that even my mobile's camera (Samsung D900) has ISO 100 while my camera doesn't have...... I'll try as you said Alan.. Cheers! Hi Ruben, Are you sure that your Polarising filter is "Circular", rather that "Linear", because linear polarisers don't work with auto-focus cameras, 35mm or digital. All the best, John.

Hi Ruben, Are you sure that your Polarising filter is "Circular", rather that "Linear", because linear polarisers don't work with auto-focus cameras, 35mm or digital. All the best, John. yes, this is important too.

Hi, just jump on board here... I agree with whats been said about not using a Polarising filter for aircaft shots. Also Ruben, as John said, check if its circular (should say CPL or similar). Other than that, it could be slowing your shutter speed at the 300-400mm focal lengths as Ian has mentioned. Just my 2 (euro) cents

Hi All, Apparently, if you use a circular polariser and a UV filter together, they do, at least to a certain extent, cancel one another out, blocking light & "slowing" the lens, aperture wise. I havn't had much chance to test this theory yet - EMA is always overcast, and the spotting facilities are awful, but in 5 weeks time, MLA, here I come!
