Viewing thumbnails of RAW files Those of you who shoot RAW, how do you get around being unable to see thumbnails of your image files when you open up the folder in Windows? Are there any special third party applications or plug-ins which enable you to do so?
I end up shooting RAW + JPEG to get around this problem, but it eats up too much memory on my hard drive.

you should opt for getting photoshop lightroom. It is an excellent program for viewing raw and normal jpegs formats. you can also do some editing on it but you'll have to export the file to photoshop to crop and do some more detailed touches. i you want any more details contact me personally! jasonraptor@gmail.com
Thanks guys. And sorry for starting this thread under the wrong place ... I wrote it in a big hurry while I was supposed to be doing something else!

Charles.
May I also let you know that there is a new version of the Windows Photo Viewer (The one you see the JPGs with), that support also RAW images.

Charles,
It might be of interest to know that the Free FastStone viewer is able to display thumbnail of RAW files in its own window.
Regards,
Gordon.

Raw + Jpeg not really bothered about memory space, but more annoying the speed of "writing" to card during multiple shots !!! (so that one may come out good !! ha ha ...!)

Bigger sensor, so you'd need a longer lens! I'd settle for the new 450D :D
As an update on the original subject, I've downloaded Microsoft RAW Image Viewer which works great. As well as being a quick way to look at full-size raw images, it allows you to see the thumbnails in the Windows folder and just hovering over a thumbnail with the mouse pointer brings up a raft of information from the EXIF data.

yes, bigger sensor, I prefer to refer to it as 1 is to 1 ..... !! no distortion in magnifying from 1 to 1.6 ......... which makes the images sharper !!!! ..... and 12 MP ........ and 15 focusing points ....... 5 metering modes ....... and so many other "would love to have" features like continious buffer for 17 RAW frames etc .......
longer lens !!?? ......... look up ALL your photos with exif and see how very very few of them exceed the 300mm zoom setting ...... so with your 400mm you would still be ok ..... VERY ok !!
